The Tamil film Thegidi became a commercial hit in its home state and it received good critical acclaim as well. The same film is going to release on the 21st in Telugu as ‘Bhadram’ and it is being distributed by Shreyas Media. Ashok Selvan and Janani Iyer have played the lead roles and P. Ramesh has taken care of the direction. Read our review of the film now.
Venu (played by Ashok Selvan) takes up a job in a detective agency after his college professor commends him for superb observation skills. Venu is tasked with the surveillance of some random people and he completes his missions in an efficient manner. His dedication and talent are noticed and appreciated by the management of the detective agency.
While on the job, he notices Madhu (played by Janani Iyer) and begins to develop a liking for her. Coincidentally, the detective agency assigns Venu a new case and his target is now Madhu. To achieve his personal as well as professional objectives, Venu starts interacting with Madhu and they slowly fall in love with each other.
During his investigation, Venu accidentally discovers that his previous surveillance targets have all died suddenly under mysterious circumstances. The young detective now finds himself in the middle of a great conspiracy that poses a significant risk to the life of Madhu.
He begins hunting down the killers systematically and the stakes get bigger with every move. Can he save Madhu’s life?
Highlights :
The film has a storyline that is quite fresh and engaging
To a large extent, the director has succeeded in maintaing the suspense element through out the film. The ‘whodunit’ factor is a big attraction for the movie.
Ashok Selvan has done a good job. Jayaprakash is very effective as Inspector Raghuram.
The film has some superb music. Nivas K Prasanna deserves a pat on the back for his background score.
Cinematography is of a very high order. The visuals look very good and the shot composition adds to the suspense element.
The pre-interval episodes are fantastic.
Weak Areas :
A less than satisfactory pre-climax and some boring moments in the second half take the sheen away from the film.
Janani Iyer does not make a very good impression. She does not have the natural charm required for the role
This film will not appeal to everyone. It is almost a niche film
The twists start becoming very predictable towards the end
The finer things :
‘Bhadram’ is one of those rare films which have an airtight screenplay. You just cannot pick holes in the plot. Every aspect of the story makes sense and you can see that a lot of research has gone into the making of the film.
Unlike some dubbed Tamil films that have poor songs, ‘Bhadram’ has surprisingly nice music and the songs sound good in Telugu as well. With a better star cast, this film would have gone places. Ramesh P is a director to watch out for in the days to come. Though the film has a limited appeal, it should do well in multiplexes and cities like Hyderabad and Vishakhapatnam.
Verdict :
‘Bhadram’ is a nicely packaged suspense thriller that makes for a good watch. It is easy to see why this film has done well in Tamil Nadu. If you are looking for a nice and sensible film to watch this weekend, look no further.
